RBS5

Commissioned for the MAD Museum

No longer on display - decommissioned.

This sculpture was commissioned by the MAD Museum in Stratford-upon-Avon, UK.

They requested a copper wire rolling ball sculpture with a unique ball-lifting mechanism.

In response, I designed a circular copper wire track that ascends from ground level, where stainless steel balls are pushed upward by a rotating vertical push rod.

You can watch the entire build process and see the finished piece in the videos below.

This sculpture is now part of the MAD Museum's collection and is on display for visitors to see in person.

Update: October 2024…

RBS5 is in need of a service and repair so it has been removed from public view for now. I have it in my workshop and am currently deciding exactly what the best corse of action is.

Maybe the guts of RBS5 will rise like a phoenix to become RBS9?? Watch this space…
